James Pravel has practiced intellectual property law since 1991. He graduated from the California Western School of Law in 1991. During law school, he excelled in moot court competition. He also attended focused courses in intellectual property at the Franklin Pierce Law Center including patent practice, licensing and patent law.

Mr. Pravel has a broad base of experience in intellectual property law including: patent application preparation, patent prosecution, international trademark practice, patent litigation, copyright litigation, trademark litigation, litigation at the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board for trademark opposition proceedings and patent searching for high stakes litigation matters.  Mr. Pravel has provided local counsel support for numerous domain name litigation matters, and has experience as lead and has litigation experience before the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Mr. Pravel formed his own practice in 1994 with the goal of providing cost effective, aggressive legal services for his firm's clients and to treat each client with dignity and respect.

His practice is located in a spacious office suite in Old Town, Alexandria near the King Street Metro Rail Station. It is located six blocks from the recently relocated US Patent and Trademark Office.

Mr. Pravel has also worked as a project and design engineer for the FMC Wellhead Equipment Division in Houston. He provided designs for underwater drilling and production equipment while based in the Houston office. He also led a project from design to completion from the FMC manufacturing plant located in Singapore. The southeast asian project required Mr. Pravel to relocate to Singapore to coordinate the manufacture and testing of equipment and then lead the installation of the equipment from a drillship in the waters off of Indonesia.

Mr. Pravel studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas and graduated in 1980. During his undergraduate studies, he excelled in FORTRAN computer programming.  He worked during college as a computer programmer at the Applied Research Laboratory.

Mr. Pravel is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, all courts in Virginia, the District of Columbia and the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is a Certified Toastmaster member and former president of the Generally Speaking Toastmasterīs Club in Crystal City, Virginia. He is also a member of the National Sportsmanīs Association, the NRA, the Chesapeake Bay Pearson Owner's Association, the Virginia State Bar and the American Intellectual Property Law Association.

Mr. Pravel has many personal accomplishments including earning a black belt in Tae Kwon Do in 1994 and a PADI Dive Master rating in 1991. He is an active Sailor on the Chesapeake Bay and also enjoys hunting in the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia.
